Your Guide To Scarf Tying

Undeniably, a scarf is a truly versatile accessory. Because of its wide variation in sizes, shapes, colors and styles available in the market, a scarf is the perfect accessory that we all should not miss, no matter what the season or time or event is. Scarf tying is not as hard as some people think. Actually, there are even lots of scarf tying techniques available on the internet for you to follow and they are very easy to learn.

Before I teach you some of the best scarf tying techniques, I would like to go over three basic folds.

·         Straight fold

1.    Lay the scarf on a flat surface, the wrong side facing up.

2.    Get one edge and fold it towards the center.

3.    Get the other edge, and meet it to the center with the folded edge

4.    Roll the scarf on your desired width.

·         Bias Band Fold

1.    Lay the scarf on a flat surface, the wrong side facing up.

2.    Get one pointed edge and fold it towards the center.

3.    Get the opposite pointed edge and meet it to the center with the folded pointed edge.

4.    Continue folding the folded edges until you reach the desired width.

·         Triangle fold

1.    Lay the scarf on a flat surface, the wrong side facing up.

2.    Fold the scarf diagonally to make a triangle.

3.    Then get the pointed edge and fold it.

4.    Roll it towards the end.

Below are some of the popular scarf tying techniques you might like to apply on your scarves.

·         Ascot Wrap – This scarf technique is very easy and can be used for all occasions.

1.    Get a square scarf and do a bias band or straight fold.

2.    Hang your scarf equally on your shoulders.

3.    Get one end and wrap it around the other.

4.    Bring it up to make a knot.

5.    Adjust both ends to make them hang equally.

·         Twice around Ascot Wrap – This technique is just the same as the ascot wrap but you need to do the wrapping twice. This technique works best with a long scarf or a bias band folded scarf.

1.    Let the scarf hang on your shoulder, one end longer than the other.

2.    Get the longer end and wrap it around your neck and hang again your front.

3.    Get again the longer end and wrap it around the other end.

4.    Pull up to make a knot.

5.    Adjust both ends to make them hang equally.

·         Bow Tie – This technique is good to match with a business suit. Ace your business deal by wearing this confident look.

1.    Do the bias band or triangle fold.

2.    Drape the scarf around your neck. Make one end hanging two inches longer than the other.

3.    Cross the longer end over the other. Pull the longer end up to make a knot.

4.    Double wrap the shorter end by itself to form a base loop in front.

5.    Loop the longer end over the center loop you made.

6.    Double wrap the longer end by itself and insert it on the loop behind your bow tie.

7.    Adjust the tie by pulling the ends to straighten the knot.

·         European Loop – This technique will give you a sophisticated look. It can be worn during the casual days or on working days.

1.    Do the bias band fold.

2.    Fold again in a half lengthwise.

3.    Drape the scarf on your neck.

4.    Take the two ends and insert on the hoop made by folding it lengthwise.

5.    Pull tightly or loosely according to your desire.

How Can You Wear A Long Scarf?

There are so many types of scarves and different materials they are made of. Also, there is very wide variety of scarf tying techniques, depending on the event you are going to and the outfit you are going to wear. One of my personal favorite types of scarves is the long knit scarf because it is simple and easy to wear. These scarves are 6 feet long or more and it can be worn in two ways.

o   The first way is to hang the scarf around your neck.  The ends hang over your chest. You then take one end and throw both ends to your back. Then take both ends back to the front and perform this until you run out of scarf.

o   The second way is to fold the scarf in half lengthwise. Take the new middle of the scarf and drape it around your neck. Take the two ends and bring it through the loop made in the fold.

Scarf Ring: FAQ

What is a scarf ring/how do you use it?

A scarf ring is an accessory that slips onto a scarf to hold certain knots in place and secure the scarf from flying in the wind.  A scarf ring can help to create some new looks and it adds mileage to your scarf. It also helps to keep your silk scarf in place so it doesn’t slip off. For scarf fashionistas, it is an essential accessory to help create new and easy looks. It is also great for those who are new to scarves as by simply slipping one on, you can look like a diva. It absolutely adds an element of interest to scarves.

How to wear a scarf ring?

There are lots of ways to use a scarf ring but here is the easiest way. Fold your scarf into a triangle and then drape the scarf around your shoulders and then pull the scarf ends through one end of the scarf ring and out the other.  Pull the scarf ring towards your neck and to your desired tightness.

What are some other ways to use a scarf ring?

Here are some creative ways to use your scarf ring? Use your scarf ring as a necklace pendant with a leather rope. You can slip it on through one hole or thread it through both. You can also use a scarf ring as a belt buckle by wrapping the scarf around your waist and threading each end of the scarf through the scarf ring. Another way to use a scarf ring is as a bracelet pendant. Tie both ends of a twilly scarf to the scarf ring and wrap it around your wrist. That’s it! New jewelry!

Where can you buy a scarf ring?

There are a couple of brands of scarf rings that I would recommend. Two of the most popular and trusted scarf rings are those of Hermes and JDVJewellery.  Hermes is one of the pioneering businesses in scarves.  Their products are pricy but the totally worth it.  You can purchase the scarf rings at any fine Hermes boutique.  JDV Jewellery is another scarf ring brand that makes a wide variety of scarf rings. They make more scarf rings in different variety of horn, which is great if you are trying to match your scarf ring to the color of your scarf. If you want to purchase from JDV Jewellery, just click your mouse and have your scarf ring delivered at your doorstep in a few days.

How can you tell if it is real buffalo horn?

Make sure you get an authentic horn scarf. That is another reason I would recommend Hermes or JDV Jewellery. You want to make sure you aren’t buying a cheap look alike.  It can be hard to distinguish the fake ones with the authentic. You have to be a very keen observer on how to differentiate the two. The best way is to actually put a match to the scarf ring. Horn will burn but it won’t melt.  A fake plastic one will.

3 Best Ways To Use A Scarf!

Scarves are truly versatile garments. You will never run out of ways to wear a scarf.  This is because scarves vary in shapes, sizes, texture and design. A few popular ways to wear are a scarf are by wearing it on your head, tying it in your hair, wrapping it around your waist or around your wrist.  But I have three on my list that I really love. Here they are:

• I use my scarf accessories (scarf rings, scarf slide, scarf clips) to help secure and add more scarf knots to my collection. Scarf rings are very simple to use and add mileage to your scarves.

• Whenever it is too hot to wear a scarf on my skin, I just simply tie the scarf on my bag. It adds glam to my purses!

• I love using my scarf as a belt on my trench coat. You can never go wrong with this look!

What Are The Fastest Ways To Tie A Scarf?

Scarf

Some many think scarves are for the winter.  Although scarves are a really hot and in demanded item, people buy them not only to keep the biting cold at bay but also used as a fashion accessory.  You can never go wrong with a scarf during any season so here are the 3 fastest ways to wear a scarf:

METHOD 1: European Loop

Fold the scarf in half lengthwise, and then drape it on your neck. Then get the scarf’s ends and place it on your scarf ring’s hole. Then pull the scarf ring upward up to your desired tightness.

METHOD 2: Ascot Knot

Place the scarf over your shoulder, with the ends even on your chest. Cross one end and pull it up through the back and over the top. You may also do the same to the other end or use a scarf ring to secure the scarf over your shoulders

METHOD 3: Layered Knot

Place the scarf on your neck, with the ends even on your chest. Then cross each end and place them over the opposite shoulder. Then cross them in the back and bring the ends back to the front. Then you can do a basic tie on the ends (ascot knot).

Alexander Wang will be broadcasted live at New York Times Square for his Fall 2010 Show. If you do not like standing with a very huge crowd or you do not live in New York, you may watch the show at showstudio.com.

The newest trends in jewellery

Jewellery is a part of most people’s wardrobe, whether you are male or female.  Jewellery adds an extra something to all wardrobes and can accentuated another piece of clothing or draw your attention elsewhere.  There are SO many accessories that you can choose from! I love necklaces because you can change the pendant and have some many options.

The newest trend in pendants is classic styles, made of natural materials.  They come in a variety of designs such as platinum, real horn, steel, wood or even bone.  Necklaces that have also become popular at those that symbolize something like crosses or even military dog tags. A lot of celebrities are spotted wearing these types of accessories.  There are also some who like 14k gold necklaces to show off their glamorous side and some prefer the bling-bling.

Other designs that have been made famous by Alexander McQueen are skulls, pirate ships, and rockers symbols. These designs are fabulous fashion accessories and are extremely popular for a rocker look. Some come in horn and other in platinum.

Know the Most Multi-Functional Accessory

Scarf_1

If you want a fast way to achieve that perfect look, one versatile and timeless accessory can do it for you.  Scarves are so multitalented that you can wear them in a number of ways and in any season.  The best thing about owning a scarf is that you can have less clothing and yet still pull out many different outfits with the help of a scarf.

Small scarves, especially square scarves, are my favorite! They are lots of great ways to wear them including the following:

  • On your neck. This is a great look if you want to look chic at a formal event.
  • On your neck for a sporty look. Team a silk scarf up with a v-neck.
  •  Wear your scarf around  the collar of your blouse or sweater.
  • You can also wear it as a bandana if you want to look adventurous. But be careful with how you sport the scarves that you will not look overdressed or exaggerated.

Scarves are really multifunctional accessories. You also have wide variety you can choose from – colors, shapes, sizes and designs.

Be Grace Kelly - Inspired

779b2e4539ekelly

Have you ever wanted to be a fashion icon? Or even emulate the style of a real fashion legend?   Grace Kelly was an Academy Award winning actress and she was a blond beauty with aristocracy as was seen when she was played Alfred Hitchcock’s beau. Her captivating looks got her a huge amount of audience and her remarkable style was adored and copied by ordinary women. Kelly retired from making films, when she married Prince Rainier III of Monaco, to fulfill her duties as a princess.  Her iconic style continues to inspire women of all fashion senses and there is something that everyone can learn from her.  If you want to be Grace Kelly-inspired for a day, wear the following:

·         Wear an ice blue satin dress.  Grace Kelly was spotted many times wearing a dress of this hue.

·         Buy a Hermes bag or something similar to this.

·         Wear a full skirt. During her time, a full skirt was a total A+ in fashion.

·         Have a tailored suit. Grace Kelly wore this with her Hermes bag.

·         Accessorize like Kelly and be spotted wearing horn rimmed glasses, hats in yellow hue and a silk chiffon scarf.  For an original touch, make sure to add a horn scarf ring for total vogue.

Re-color Your Scarves

Scarfcollection

Mother Nature really gives us wonderful resources to use. So why not make use of them and have fun?

Did you know that parts of a plant such as the leaves, flowers, roots and stem can be used to make wonderful non-toxic natural dyes for your silk shawls, scarves and other accessories?

Silks are considered to be the most luxurious kind of fabric as they are sexy and seducing.  They are the easiest fabrics to dye and its smooth fibers can be a prism of light that can reflect a spectrum of any color. This is what gives silks a wonderful sheen and luster. It is perfect for a romantic night out too!

So grab your old silk scarf or shawl and some accessories that need to be revitalized.

If I may suggest, since we are in the topic of sexy and seducing, a red scarf is good to use for this activity. Indulge yourself with confidence as you dye your red scarf and wear it again to your next big event.
