A New Website for Hermes

Hermés has recently launch a new website titled, "J'aime Mon Carré" (I Love My Scarf). This website uses Polaroid-bordered fashion shots of a series of street models (I say models because I don't think they were all just walking the streets and photographed but maybe I am wrong here). Although this is a highly unlikely and raw scene coming from Hermés, I think it is quite brilliant and a creative way to break out of their mold. Many critics compare the street shot to those akin to "The Sartorialist" or "Art of the Trench" and wonder whether the marketing is a ploy or pure art. For a fashion house that sells $80,000 purses, it is definitely out of their element and a different spin of the market they usually target. They seem to be aiming for a younger crowd and using young models to get the message across. The photos portrayed are whimsical and interesting and provide inventive ways on how to wear a scarf.

The new Hermes site was launched to introduce a new Hermes line of limited-edition scarves that will be sold at Colette, in Paris, in September. I think they did a great job of putting this all together and starting the buzz early.

I have played around on the new site and find the pictures really cool but I am finding the films slow to load. There is one film that really has me thinking about the song "I whip my hair back and forth" but while it is playing in my head I am really hearing "I whip my scarf back and forth"….Let me know if you get this same vibe… The knots are really imaginative but I find pictures of the knots hard to follow (I am always struggling to follow pictures of knots) so I am going to take it upon myself to work through the "J'aime Mon Carré" website and providing a video for scarf tying that they show. I think it will be a great project and it will be very Julia Child of me.

Looking forward to the challenge!
