Have you ever pulled out a scarf from your closet only to find that it was stained? Have you ever found your favorite scarf on the floor where it has picked up lots of dust? Every scarf collector has been through a time where they have had to clean one of their scarves and if you haven’t, there’s nothing to worry about; your scarves can be cleaned! There are certain guidelines that you should follow when cleaning your scarf. Here are the dos and don’ts when cleaning your scarves.
DO – Hand wash your scarves. You can also try something call the “bottle technique” where the scarf is put in a glass bottle and shaken back and forth.
DON’T- Wash your scarf in a machine. Washing it using the washing machine might destroy the fabric due to its twirling. You wouldn’t want one of the threads to get loose!
DO- Dry your scarf the traditional way. Hang it to dry but do not put it in direct sunlight, as the color of the scarf might fade.
DON’T-Dry clean it. Just like the laundry machine, this might cause to the fabric to unravel.
DO- Use a mild detergent for the specific fabric of your scarf. There are certain soaps for certain types of fabric. Use one that matches the scarf’s material.
DON’T- Use alkali detergents or soap detergents. Theycontain strong ingredients that could cause the fabric’s color to fade.
Generally, these are simple dos and don’ts to remember when washing your scarves. The scarves’ cleaning process may differ to some manufacturers. So when washing your scarf, check the manufacturer’s instructions and follow them.
