Why and How Flight Attendants Wear Scarves

Flight attendants are typically well-dressed and professional when it comes to their professional attire. They are usually tall, have flawless skin, white teeth and must learn how to swim. Additionally, they always have to be presentable when it comes to knowing how to look neat and tidy. Aside from their professional look, what makes them more admirable is their scarf fashion sense.

As we all know, a scarf is a versatile accessory that can be worn to a casual or formal event. Undeniably, scarves work wonders and add elegance to every flight attendants’ uniform.

So what started this trend and why do flight attendants wear scarves?

Technically, not all flight attendants are required to wear a scarf. It is their prerogative and they can wear one for personal function or fashion.

There are also many ways flight attendants wear scarves. With its versatility, there are many ways you will see flight attendants wear their scarves.  So, if you are an aspiring flight attendant and want to learn how to wear a scarf like them, here are the steps to wearing a scarf like a flight attendant.

You must use a small to medium-sized silk scarf as this is a formality. The wool or knitted scarves are too big for flight attendant uniforms. They also avoid long scarves as these are not practical for serving food or drinks.

I will also cover the slip knot technique flight attendants use when wearing a scarf. This is the most common type of scarf tying used by flight attendants and other women in a formal uniform.

Here are the instructions on how to tie a scarf in slip knot.

1.       Roll the scarf from one corner up to the other end. You may adjust the width of the roll according to your preference and its proportion to your neck.

2.       Put the rolled scarf on your neck.

3.       Then tie it like how men tie their scarves. Wrap one end of the scarf around the other end.

4.       Then pull the same end of the scarf through the loop made on your neck.

5.       Tighten the scarf according to your preference. And VOLA! You are done and ready to get on board.
